Exotic & Rare Cannabis Seeds

Our exotic and rare cannabis seeds are where you'll find some of the more unusual genetics in the MSNL collection, from hard-to-find varieties and distinctive crosses to strains developed exclusively for us. We choose these strains because they offer something genuinely different from more familiar cannabis genetics, whether that's their lineage, flavor, appearance or the way they grow. If you've already grown the classics and want to try something less conventional, this is where we'd start.

What Makes a Cannabis Strain Exotic or Rare?

We don't consider a strain exotic simply because it has an unusual name. For us, there needs to be something about the genetics that sets it apart from the more established varieties you'll find across the wider MSNL collection.

That might be an uncommon lineage, a distinctive combination of parent strains, limited availability or characteristics that make the plant noticeably different to grow or experience. Some are modern hybrids created from unusual genetic combinations, while others earn their place because the genetics themselves are harder to find.

How We Choose Genetics for This Collection

When we're deciding which strains belong in our exotic and rare collection, we're looking for genetics that give growers a genuine reason to choose them over a more familiar variety. A different name isn't enough.

Depending on the strain, that difference might come from its ancestry, plant structure, flower appearance, resin production, flavour, aroma or effects. We also consider how the genetics perform when grown, including characteristics such as growth rate, flowering behaviour, consistency and difficulty to grow.

Exclusive MSNL Genetics

Some of the strains you'll find here are exclusive genetics developed by MSNL or created through collaborations with experienced cannabis breeders. These give us the opportunity to work with established genetics in new combinations and develop strains specifically for the MSNL collection.

Our exclusive strains aren't automatically included here simply because they're exclusive, though. This collection is reserved for varieties we believe offer something sufficiently unusual or distinctive to sit alongside our other rare genetics.

Unusual Cannabis Genetics and Crosses

Crossbreeding is responsible for much of the diversity found in modern cannabis. Bringing two different genetic lines together can introduce new combinations of characteristics, but the most interesting crosses aren't necessarily the ones with the most complicated family tree.

We're more interested in what the resulting plants actually offer. An unusual cross might combine characteristics from its parents in a way that changes plant structure, flowering time, potency, flavour or appearance, producing something noticeably different from either side of its lineage.

What Are Exotic Cannabis Strains Like to Grow?

There isn't a single growing style associated with exotic cannabis. This collection contains genetics from different backgrounds, so plant height, structure, flowering time and difficulty can vary considerably from one strain to another.

That's particularly important when choosing a rare strain. We recommend checking the individual product information rather than assuming an exotic variety will be more difficult to grow. Some unusual genetics are surprisingly straightforward, while others are better suited to growers with enough experience to manage more demanding plants.

Flavours and Aromas You Won't Find in Every Strain

One of the reasons we enjoy working with less conventional genetics is the variety of terpene profiles they can produce. While familiar fruity, earthy and skunky characteristics still appear, unusual crosses can push those profiles in very different directions.

Depending on the genetics, you can find combinations ranging from sweet, creamy and tropical notes to fuel, spice, citrus and much more pungent profiles. If flavour is the reason you're exploring exotic strains, check the individual strain descriptions to compare the dominant characteristics we've identified for each variety.

Choosing the Right Exotic or Rare Cannabis Seeds

We'd start by deciding what you actually want to be different. If you've grown plenty of familiar strains, you might want an unusual lineage or a completely different flavour profile. Alternatively, you may be interested in distinctive plant characteristics, exceptional potency or genetics you simply haven't grown before.

Once you've narrowed that down, compare the practical growing characteristics as you would with any other strain. Expected height, flowering time, yield and difficulty to grow still matter, particularly if you're working with limited space or want a strain suited to your level of experience.

Exotic & Rare Cannabis Seeds FAQs

What are exotic cannabis seeds?

Exotic cannabis seeds come from genetics considered unusual or distinctive compared with more widely available strains. At MSNL, this collection includes uncommon varieties, unusual crosses and selected exclusive genetics that offer something noticeably different from our more familiar strains.

What makes a cannabis strain rare?

A strain can be considered rare because its genetics have limited availability, its lineage is difficult to find or relatively few breeders and seed banks offer it. We look at the genetics themselves rather than relying on a strain being marketed as rare.

Are exotic cannabis strains harder to grow?

Not necessarily. Exotic describes what makes the genetics unusual rather than how difficult the plant is to cultivate. Some of our exotic strains are straightforward to grow, while others require more experience. Check the difficulty and growing information for each strain before choosing.

Are all exotic strains exclusive to MSNL?

No. Some strains in this collection are MSNL exclusives, while others are included because their genetics are rare, unusual or difficult to find. We only describe a strain as exclusive when it has been developed specifically for MSNL or is otherwise available exclusively through us.

Are rare cannabis seeds better than common strains?

Not necessarily. Rarity doesn't automatically make one strain better than another. Established strains became popular for good reason, and many remain some of our favourite genetics to grow. We'd choose an exotic or rare strain when you specifically want something different rather than treating rarity itself as a measure of quality.
