What Is 420 Day?
420 is the most iconic day in American cannabis culture — a nationwide celebration of the plant, its history, and the community behind it. As one of the original cannabis seed banks supplying U.S. growers, MSNL marks the occasion with a month full of special offers, giveaways, flash sales, and exclusive promotions.
Because 420 lands right at the start of the U.S. outdoor grow season, savvy growers across the country use this sale to stock up on discounted genetics for spring planting and future grows.
When Is The 420 Sale?
The official celebration is on April 20th, but we know U.S. growers love an early deal. That’s why our 420 Sale often kicks off ahead of the big day — so if it’s April and you’re reading this, keep an eye on the site… the next big announcement could drop any moment.
Where Did 420 Day Get Its Name?
The origin of “420” is deeply rooted in American cannabis folklore. The story begins in San Rafael, California, in 1971, when a group of high school students made a pact to search for an abandoned cannabis crop using a map left behind by the grower. They agreed to meet after school at 4:20 PM, using “420” as their secret code.
Although they never located the mysterious crop, the term stuck — becoming a private shorthand within their circle before spreading through California’s counterculture. The phrase gained national attention in 1991 when High Times wrote about “420,” mistakenly connecting it to a police code.
By the mid-1990s, 420 had become a nationwide cultural symbol, representing cannabis, community, and celebration. And of course, the date 4/20 (April 20th) became the official day America honors the plant.
