Granddaddy Purple Feminised Seeds

Free Seeds with every order!

Few purple strains are as recognisable as Granddaddy Purple. Its deep colour, sweet grape aroma, and relaxing character have kept it popular for years, but we also wanted our selection to offer dependable performance from grow to grow. By starting with a clone of the original, we worked to preserve the traits that made the strain famous while improving its structure and production potential. Rather than chasing THC alone, the focus was on a balanced version that stayed true to its Californian roots and gave growers a more consistent, rewarding experience.

STRAIN TRAITS

Growing Granddaddy Purple

Granddaddy Purple is easy to manage and usually reaches around 100–180 cm. Its indica-dominant structure keeps the plant fairly controlled, making it suitable for indoor spaces where a tall flowering stretch would be difficult to handle.

The flowers become dense and chunky as they mature, so airflow is one of the main things to pay attention to. Keep enough space between plants and remove only the leaves that are blocking air through the centre of the canopy. This helps moisture escape from around the buds during the final weeks.

If you want to encourage deeper purple colour, slightly cooler night temperatures near the end of flowering can help bring out the influence of the Purple Urkle parent. Keep the drop gradual rather than exposing the plant to sudden cold, which may slow development.

Granddaddy Purple performs well in temperate, warm, and subtropical climates. Outdoors, it is generally ready in early October. Indoors, steady care works better than trying to force growth. Give the flowers time to mature fully and use the trichomes to judge harvest rather than relying only on the stated 10–12 week flowering window.

Yield Potential

Under suitable indoor conditions, Granddaddy Purple can produce around 400–500 g/m². The Big Bud influence adds useful production potential, while the controlled structure makes the canopy easier to light evenly.

Good spacing becomes increasingly important as the flowers fill out. An open canopy allows light to reach more bud sites and helps prevent humidity from building around the dense flowers. Outdoors, plenty of direct sun and a warm, dry finish give the plant the best chance of reaching its full potential.

Potency & Effects

With THC levels reaching up to 24% and CBD below 1%, Granddaddy Purple delivers a strong, deeply relaxing experience. The effects are better suited to the evening, when you are ready to slow down and leave demanding tasks behind.

The indica influence tends to become more noticeable as the high develops, creating a calm, body-led finish rather than an energetic effect. Its strength makes it a better choice for experienced users. Anyone with a lower tolerance should start carefully and allow time to judge how the effects build.

Aroma, Flavour & Terpenes

Granddaddy Purple is known for sweet grape and berry notes with a softer violet finish. Myrcene gives the profile a deeper earthy base, pinene adds a fresher herbal edge, and caryophyllene brings a light touch of spice.

The cure matters as much as the harvest. After several weeks in the jar, the sharper fruit notes tend to become richer and better integrated, allowing the grape, berry, and floral layers to come through more clearly.

Who Is Granddaddy Purple Best Suited To?

Granddaddy Purple suits growers who want a classic purple indica with strong potency, manageable growth, and plenty of visual appeal. Its straightforward nature makes it accessible to newer growers, while the dense flowers and colour potential still give experienced cultivators something worth working toward.

It is especially well suited to evening users, flavour-focused growers, and anyone who values relaxing effects and sweet fruit aromas over an energetic daytime experience.

Tips From the MSNL Grow Team

  • Use slightly cooler nights late in bloom to encourage purple colour where the genetics allow.
  • Keep air moving through the canopy as the dense flowers begin to fill out.
  • Harvest by checking the trichomes rather than relying only on the calendar.
  • Give the flowers several weeks to cure so the grape and berry notes fully develop.
